History

Carolina BBQ League, a nonprofit organization, was founded in 2013 by a group of barbeque enthusiasts, restaurateurs and North Carolina competition legends with a mission to promote and protect the Tar Heel State’s time-honored tradition of low and slow barbeque.

Our League sanctions numerous barbeque competitions and festivals across North Carolina to promote and ensure the quality, consistency and fair judging of the best barbeque in the world! Our League certifies its judges through an in-depth class about the proper methods to prepare, cook and present the staples of North Carolina barbeque – whole hog, whole chicken and whole pork shoulder.

In addition to offering judging and training, our League opens up its cooking classes to anyone with a passion to cook like a pro in their own backyard. Cooking classes are hosted by award-winning barbeque pit masters, who have proven their knowledge and skill are among the best from the North Carolina mountains to the Piedmont and to the coast.
